John Allnutt has been teaching percussion since 2008 and is an active educator and performer in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. He performs and teaches jazz, concert, marching, and world music.

John primarily works with students from fourth grade through high school in Richmond and Berea.

John earned his Bachelor’s degree in percussion performance under the distinguished professor James Campbell at the University of Kentucky.  Throughout his undergraduate education, he was a snareline member of the Cavalier drum and bugle corps in 2003, ‘04, and ‘06 when they received two DCI World Championships, and a member of Rhythm X Indoor Ensemble in 2007. He also completed his Master's in Music Education at Southern Methodist University in 2012. John is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and a teaching artist with Innovative Percussion.

John’s students have many opportunities to perform locally from farmer’s markets and local businesses to places in need of musical cheer such as senior citizen centers.  For four years, the Allnutts4Music studio has produced a silent movie event called "The Sounds of Silents" featuring student performers set to classic films.

John resides in Richmond with his wife Laura and dog Sam.  They enjoy cooking, learning new board games, and playing music together in their free time.
